Adaptive predictors in signal processing and control are mostly based on autoregresive models with external inputs (ARX). There are, however, applications for which the liminations of ARX models might be significant. When looking for an alternative universal class of models, finite order Markov chains seem to be promising alternative.

The fractographic analysis has a wide use in material research and industrial applications. However, the conservative fractographic methods - searching and deterministic description of fractographic features using photographic techniques, manual measurement, etc. - have reached their limits. Therefore the new development requires to introduce the up-to-date methods of computer image processing.
Department: ZOI Duration: 1996 - 1998 Grantor:
The project is devoted to the feature-based description of blurred digital images acquired by a linear shift-invariant imaging system and to the recognition of such images with respect to an image database. Finding appropriate features for object description is the key to successful recognition of degraded objects.
